abstract mobubbles scene

MoGraph has to be my favourite of the Cinema 4D tools. Its creative possibilities are endless and with this tutorial, I show you how to create my MoBubbles scene.

I wanted to do a tutorial on MoGraph, because it's such a fun suite of tools to work with. You can get some really interesting animation involving thousands of objects, very quickly. MoGraph is used by many 3D motion graphics artists to create some amazing animation. Once you understand how it works, it's really easy to work with. Spend 25 minutes following my tutorial and you'll be able to create a wide range of scenes using those core principles.

MoGraph is included with Cinema 4D Broadcast and Studio, so you'll need either of those to get the toolset. If you haven't got it, then you can follow along with the Cinema 4D trial version, which you can download on the link below.

At the heart of MoGraph is the Cloner Object, so that's what I wanted to focus on here. I started playing around with it in Object Mode to see what sort of funky, abstract designs I could create. After a while, I'd created the dissolving bubble effect you can see in the image above.

The base design is made up of a Cloner Object, cloning spheres in the shape of a torus; the Plain Effector, used to create the dissolving effect; and some Dynamics to make the clones more animated and not intersect. You can use MoGraph to make interesting stills, but it's really at its most exciting for animation. You can see the five-second animation I made at the start of the tutorial below and then follow along to recreate it.
