Not much work done on the ship but this is the new camera angle. I did make the ocean waves larger and ad some non reflective patches..

Back to the ship details now i think..

The model and still render looks great, very inspiring. I wonder if you might be able to post the final animation?

I too have been asked to animate some ships like this (I highly doubt its the same job dont worry)
I am most interested in the water (animated) and the sails cloth sim. There is really nothing on cineversity about cloth for sails so I guess its up to trial and error.

During the school holidays i took my kids to an old ship museum and went on a big boat. I took loads of photos and will be coming back to the details of the ship soon..

Blewis- i will be posting wips through-out. For the moment i'm focusing on ships and water, and generally not up too close. Hence i have faked the sails so far, though i have a new fake sail i'll be showing you in the next few days.

So i've been very busy, i now know what era ship i need and so have started a new one.. I was able to bring lots over from the last one and even bent some of the hull into it's new shape.

I always like to work on several things at once to turn to in head banging moments. I have been working on my ocean. In my research i stumbled on this clip made by Ederer on vimeo..

I think you'll agree, very impressive stuff.

Knowing this is possible in my 3d program i started to dabble with my own version..

I will post a rendered version shortly..

This is the sprite based render to sea (excuse the pun) how it looks, the render time was a bit nasty but i wasn't expecting blink of an eye results..

I think if i scale up the ship this should work well for initial purposes. That said i now have to get this working with my ship simulator, then see if it will all working in harmonious multi-ship style.
