First of all, welcome aboard... Usually when you make a hand RIG, only one joint is used for the central part of the hand. Sure, happens to me too. Did you try to move points with other instruments instead of using the soft selection? I remember that some tools are not compatible with pose morph movement, so if you move some points or polygons with magnet tools all will be fine but if you using Slide, Soft Selection to...
