Hi and welcome

You're question is too much generic to be explained in a post.

What do you need exactly ? Do you need to rig arms, legs?

explain character rigging it could be take hours and hours

I want to add controls over the total character so I can animate it. I want to know if this is done via a template or from scratch

Inside cinema there are some template for rig character but of course they are not so flexible and you have to take them as is.

The best way is always start from stratch and make a rig specific for your model

Try to search some tutorial on youtube, in the italian side of this site we have got the course but it's in italian speaking

I was hoping someone had this issue before. I dont think there is a video on how not do this I have looked and it mainly speaks of creating a skeleton and then auto rigging, I saw this on a May tutorial (custom control rig) I just figured it might be generic

Let me try this again: Here is the Daz character I imported into C4D, I turned off the skin, clothes. I want to add a control rig to this using character in C4D or whaever program in C4D.

Sorry but as I told you rigging cannot be explain in some words

Here's a rigging course, as you may note it's about 3 hours of video

I advice you to subscribe to this learning service and follow some rigging course

NO THANK YOU: :nono
I was not asking you to tell me how to rig, just if its possible to add control handles (nothing more) if I wanted to rig from scratch, the program in C4D helps with that.
The Daz model is rigged I dont like the existing handles on it
Thank you for your time

Sorry but add some control handles is not question of some click, it's rigging
