CGTrader Digital Art Competition draws in over five thousand entries

A community of 1.5 million users are bracing themselves for the announcement of the winners of its largest digital art contest to date, with a prize pool of $60,000 in valuable prizes and licences for digital artists.

Digital artists of all stripes have come together at CGTrader for a massive art competition, where they submitted their best two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art. The competition closed for new submissions on 30 September, amassing a total of over 3,000 entrants and 6,500 contest submissions. The most popular category is the Character Illustration category, which attracted close to half of all submissions in the competition.

‘This is a singular event – it is astounding to have so many great artists bring their own styles and visions, pushing the boundaries of what digital visual art is capable of,’ said Laura, the leading organizer of the event.

This is not the fist art contest held by CGTrader, a 3D design platform, but it is the first one to host 2D works of art as well.

‘We want to give back to the CG community. We often hold design challenges for our users and afterward ask the winners to tell us what inspires them. Numerous great designers told us how 2D visual art inspires them as much as 3D art. Seeing the impact that CG art has on our world, we want to support all digital artists, and that is precisely why this time we are reaching out to both 2D and 3D artists.’ said Laura.

The winners will be announced in early November, but, for now, we have selected some works of art to give you an impression of the variety of entries among the thousands in the competition gallery.
