Michael John from Colorcubic posts a quick tutorial on how to create a coiled headphone cable in Cinema 4D. If you have ever wondered how you would model the long curly-Q’d cable that you sometimes see with headphone cables, there isn’t one clear answer.

The modeling process will depend greatly on the end use of the model itself. If the model will never be animated, then you likely have a lot more options available to you. Talking about animation, you need to focus on how that animation will take place. That can narrow the choices that you have for creating the model.

Here, Michael shows how you can use a super-simple sweep NURBS object in C4D to create the coiled shape that will be the headphone cable. Using another spline and a spline wrap, can make the cable follow any path that you like. It’s a simple process, and it is pretty effective.
